  Earnings Report: EMC Meets Analyst...
  EMC (NYSE:EMC) reported Q2 EPS of $0.28, inline with analyst estimates. Revenue rose 23% to $4.02 billion, topping consensus estimates of $3.98 billion. The company said it sees 2010 restructuring charges of 2 cents and acquisition-related charges of 23 cents. Joe Tucci, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, "The strength and demand that we saw during the quarter is testament to the value our customers see in our information infrastructure and virtual infrastructure solutions and the massive opportunity before us. The IT industry is in the midst of a major transformation to cloud computing and, ultimately, to a more agile way to consume and deliver IT." David Goulden, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, said, "For the second consecutive quarter, EMC once again turned a 'triple play' by gaining market share while investing for the future and increasing profitability. With this, we also expanded gross and operating margins and generated all-time record year-to-date operating and free cash flow. Moving forward, we remain confident that we have the right business and operating model to continue delivering annual double-digit revenue and earnings growth over the long term."   Biotech concern Biogen Idec (NASDAQ:BIIB) reported Q2 EPS of $1.31 (ex-items), besting consensus estimates of $1.12. Revenue in the quarter rose 10% year-over-year to $1.21 billion, topping analyst estimates of $1.13 billion. Sales of Tysabri rose 17% year-over-year. Biogen boosted its full-year forecast and sees adjusted EPS above $4.70 (vs. estimates of $4.57). CEO George Scangos said, "Biogen Idec had a solid second quarter. Our charge now is to build on the quarter, aggressively execute our marketing plans for AVONEX, complete the patient and risk stratification strategy for TYSABRI, move the late-stage pipeline forward rapidly, and rationalize the R&D portfolio. We have the potential to launch five new products in the next three years. I'm excited about the opportunities ahead and eager to address our challenges head-on and work with the management team and Board to drive Biogen Idec to achieve its full potential."
