Tewspaper – a Twitter news newspaper
Tewspaper takes the hottest news links across 6 major cities, for now, and updates them continually on a single homepage.  It attempts to grab pictures relative to the content, if one does not exist with the link itself. It basically is a constantly reloading page with breaking news stories as fast as their algorithm can find the links.  I follow...
Fwix Attempts to Fill the Local News Void
Fwix Attempts to Fill the Local News Void
One of the most distressing aspects of the freefalling newspaper industry is the effect that has on local news reporting. Although the fall of local papers is certainly an opportunity for bloggers and community-driven news sites, for news consumers, finding local news can become increasingly difficult. Yesterday, Fwix launched, and it’s...
Social Networking Sites Changing the Way News is Shared
That social media is affecting not just how we interact with each other but also how we get our news is undeniable, and it’s transforming news media at a quick clip.  It’s strange to think that the fourth estate is changing so quickly, but it’s not really surprising.  Consider how many news… This is a content summary only, please visit...
Trust And Safety
As Director of Twitter’s Trust and Safety team, a big part of my job is focused on the detection and prevention of spam and abuse. A couple weeks ago, Biz explained how Twitter users were being victimized by phishing scams spread primarily through links in Direct Messages. Basically, people click the link and bad things happen. My team can...
The Reliability Of News On Twitter
The Reliability Of News On Twitter
If you want to know what’s hot, what’s not, and what the freshest news seems to be, Twitter might be the place to be on the cutting edge. However, just how reliable is the news you see on Twitter? Just like you can’t believe everything you read in the newspapers or magazines, or believe everything you see on television, Twitter has its good...

TwitReply – automatic reponses to tweets
I am not saying I am a fan of TwitReply for what it does.  It takes much of the human side out of any interaction.  While in customer service worlds it may have an immediate benefit until they realize it was automated, much like email systems do. What the tool does it scan the Twitter stream looking for keywords and then sends a reply with some...

Microsoft and News Corp in Discussions to Remove Newspaper Content from Google
Yes, really. Rupert Murdoch’s crusade to blame Google for the failing newspaper business model continues today, as it emerges that News Corp has conducted talks with Microsoft about de-indexing the company’s sites from Google and (presumably) being paid to include them in Bing instead. The concept makes sense only if you buy Murdoch’s...
